Firstly, let us say welcome to the beautiful island of Lanzarote. We have been calling Lanzarote home for the last 25 years.

What to expect when you first land

So you've arrived in Lanzarote- where next?

Follow the signs for passport control and baggage reclaim. Remember to take everything with you and collect the correct bag from the carousel (you'd be surprised how often people take the wrong bags.)

Once through the white automatic doors, you are now in the main arrivals hall.

If you are taking a transfer, the company will usually meet you by the rock pile in front of the doors.

Taxi and bus

If you are taking a taxi, follow the signs for taxi. (Same if you are taking the bus)

Hire car

If a hire car is your chosen method of transport.

There are company desks available in the arrivals hall or depending on your company, some have offices in the car park (your company should tell you where you can collect your car)

Take the travelator to the car park and exit using the white sliding door and follow the directions given to you.

-Check all costs before you accept the car

-Check the condition of the car and note any damage via photographs (to ensure you don't get a nice bill when you hand the car back)

-Check the type of fuel the car uses

Getting to your villa

There are many ways of getting to your villa once you have arrived in Lanzarote. The most popular are; hire car, taxi, public bus or a booked transfer.

Playa Blanca is 33km from Lanzarote Airport - the journey driving takes approximately 30 minutes.

However transfers and the bus may take longer as they make frequent stops.

Driving in Lanzarote

Driving in Lanzarote is very different to driving in the UK.

There is no tolerance for drink driving or speeding. Heavy fines are applicable for both. Even driving 1 kph above the speed limit can have serious consequences.

Some drivers brake suddenly and don't use indicators so make sure to pay attention.

When using roundabouts, remember to use the outside lane. We have attached a image to explain.

Using The Bus

If you haven't hired a car and want to explore more, there is a bus service here in Lanzarote.

There are buses around Playa Blanca but also buses further afield to Puerto del Carmen and Arrecife.

Drinking water

All water in Lanzarote is desalinated before entering the water system. It is up to European standards, however, due to the chemicals used, it sometimes doesn't taste the best.

Thankfully, the majority of our villas have filters fitted- if not, we recommend buying bottled water from the local supermarkets.

The weather in Lanzarote is much different to the weather you are used to in the UK or Ireland.

Even when it is cloudy in Lanzarote (it's rare) - the UV levels are still extremely high. It is worth wearing a strong sun cream, especially if you are swimming in the sea or going to the beach.

We provide a welcome pack in all our villas, containing the basics necessities. However, the time will come when you need to venture to one of the many supermarkets in Playa Blanca.

There are a wide variety to chose from. The main ones are the HiperDino and Spar. However, there are also 'Overseas' which stock English products.

We have added a map of our villas to show just how close they are to a wide variety of supermarkets.
